These are the pieces of carpentry that I made for my A-Level. I used a variety of woodworking joints, including: Mortice and tennon, dowel, butt and biscuit.
AS project
For my AS project I chose to make a chair which my teacher commented that was at an A2 level.
This was devleloped from a design of a low tripod design from Charles Rennie Mackintosh. I combines multiple elements from chairs of his design. Including the Ladder Back Style and the Shield effect back rest.
I changed and developed the design, so as to make a unique design. I curved the Front legs outwards, the spine and the seat. This is a dramatic change from the stylings of Mr. Mackintosh.
A2 project
For my A2 Project I chose to make a dual purpose table. Although it was a different structure and style, I feel that it is inferior to my AS project.
What I made was a coffee table that revolved to show a hidden Chess Board. I made the Locks, holding the correct side up, with two locks on either side, totaling four locks. I hinged the section on a pair of stainless steel pins mounted upon the center of rotation. The main construction of the top is MDF, with and inner and outer frame of Pine, with a Veneer covering the surface.

The locking mechanisim is a bolt action design, 'hung' on the outer rail and the support. The bolt is designed to enter half way when the table is set to flat surface, interlocking with the edge of the chess board, and full depth when the chess board is exposed.
