oetsu nimaiya
Oetsu is the Blacksmith of all of Soul Society and know where every one of his swords are at any given time. This is what game him a place in Zero Division and earned him the Title of 'God of Sword'.
His personal Sword which he considers Flawed, is in actuality too sharp to be put in a conventional sheath at it would cut anything resting on it. Instead he keeps it held in a back mounted tank filled with a jelly like substance. I made the Sword and the Tank for this Costume.
The sword, being that it does not have a sheath was a perfect opportunity to use the leftover Blank Katana.
The Tsuba in the few imajes avaliable was a plain oval tsuba with few decorative elements, as such I fashioned it out of pine using a hack saw to cut the bulk of the material off and refined it with a surform. The handle was painted Black and Tsuba were painted Black and I applied 1cm wide black cotton flat cord over the handle in a Katana wrap diamond pattern. The blade I covered with Aluminium Ducting tape which I dulled with 000-wire wool. the last step that I did on the sword was to paint a Hamon onto the blade using a fine modellers brush and a small pot of Modelling Enamel paint. |
As for the Box, I took the height of the box relative to the sword blade and used that as my basis. I added 10cm to the length in order to make the height of the box, followed by scaling the other sides relative to the height I needed.
I made the frame of the Box by using 2cm Ø PVC pipe along with 'T' connectors and 90° connectors. After making the frame, I set about skinning it, this consisted of a bag with the top surface held at the rear of the box with stitching and the other 3 edges with a zip. Three of the outward facing sides of the 'skin' were made using Tulle, which is a mesh like material, allowing it to seem transparent. the rest of the surface was made using white Drill. White webbing was added the rear of the Skin so that I could wear it at the Con.
